Subject: Touge Tune Database Sun Dec 09, 2012 12:36 pm
This thread is for everything Tunes! Whether it is a specific car or just a base tune you use, post them up! Discuss anything about each others tunes and tuning styles! Go submit your tunes!
With a lot of newcomers not knowing how to tune for the touge, I thought this thread would be helpful. Just copy and paste the below and I'll add it to the OP.
Important, make sure you place it in a spoiler. If you are unsure on how to do this a moderator will do it for you.

Anyone wanna help me out, I'm kinda new to the whole Touge Tuning side. As I see it, I'm about 25 seconds behind on new downhill (which is what I'd like to set up for). Here's the layout of the tune I have.
Problems I've noticed. Rear Tires only reaching 185 Degrees, going to up the rear tire pressure a little and also, once I hit the waterfall, that''s where I notice my car start to slow down. As I was racing a 4:50 leaderboard time, that's where he passed me. He left me at about 75% mark

I can help you out with your FC.
Keep in mind that you'll have to make up for the car's faults more than some other cars. The way Forza calculates it's PI ratings, the FC has too much speed, not enough acceleration, handling, breaking, etc. It's not a bad car by any means, but keep in mind that something like a Fairlady Z, miata, ae86, MRS, or Escort can and will out-break you, out-accelerate you, and a couple of them will even out-corner you. If you want to stick with it though, you can definitely be competitive with an RX-7.
You have a good base already, but I have a few suggestions, try them out and see if they feel better or make you any faster.
-Change your sport flywheel to race (Better engine response for stop and go driving) -Remove Corksport rear wing (Reduce "Speed" rating) -Try increasing Brake balance to 48%-50% -Spend lots of time tuning Differential, try lower, more conservative settings as well as high percentage settings. -Adjust your car's settings as little as possible from stock. A more basic tune will be easier to learn on than one that's complicated.
These may or may not make you faster. Remember you need to try them for yourself to know if you'll like the setting, and change one thing at a time. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you want you can add a race rear wing to help reduce your speed, while improving cornering and braking. The trouble is that in most competition, race aero is restricted, meaning you won't be able to compete in the car you're used to. If you're more concerned about leaderboard times it might be useful. Once you feel like you can handle your car a little better, you can try racing JST Grave's ghost on the leaderboard. His time is 4:42, and his ghost can show you some good lines.
Anyway, it really all comes down to how much you practice. New drivers commonly believe it's their cars holding them back, but it's usually just inexperience. Good choice with an FC though, you must be some kind of gentlemen or scholar

Haha. Thanks man. No, I just like the FC for the car itself. Looks so good and is still a decent car.
Things I did to cut a second off.
-Lower rear Tire Pressure 1lbs -Stiffened Rear springs 30lbs -Stiffened Rear bump .2 -Stiffened Rear Rebound .2 -lowered the diff to 45accel and 35decel -Lengthened 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears (I was bogging down in 3rd coming out of most corners, but 2nd, I'd have to shift soon as I got on the gas.
I'll try doing the race flywheel, but idk what to take off. Street Exhaust and replace with Street intake?. Idk if I'll be at 500 if I take the exhaust off and place a race flywheel on. I'm barely hanging on to 500. My front bumper was chosen because it allowed me to be B500 over the other 2 bumpers which would place me at A501. Also, I'm just making this a touge comp car. No Aero here. haha.

I've gotten it down to a 4:51. I can get a 4:50 easy, just need a few tweaks and follow my line and I think it'll be golden. The fastest posted FC on the LB's is a 4:50:040. I plan to beat that.

On a side-note... I feel silly asking this because I've been tuning my own cars since FM3 but...
Does a race flywheel have any noticeable difference over a stock one besides weight (2-4lbs)? For the love of me whenever I upgraded my cars I would sacrifice those 2-4lbs for 4-6hp but never once gave a light flywheel a try.

If you lower the differential settings for acceleration you are basically limiting the amount of wheelspin that the outside tire can have when accelerating out of a corner. That way it is easier to come out of corners with minimal to zero wheelspin at near full throttle On the contrary, if you lower the differential settings for deceleration you are basically limiting the amount of wheelspin that the outside tire can have when you are off the throttle in between corners or during braking. That way it is harder for the car to initiate a braking drift when coming into a corner at high speed or during trail braking I keep the diff settings for both my NSX and MR-S at 30% accel and 15% decel

That's great! Hitting 4:49 will mark your moving up to the big leauges! I assume you're running the New Downhill correct? If so, not to put you down or anything but, I think you're mistaken that the fastest FC is a 4:50, it's actually a 4:38...I know because I set it, ehehe~. The second fastest should be JST Grave, he runs 4:42.

Damn, good job. What's the fastest for an 86, and what stage is it?
I'd say the fastest AE86 driver is my brother, Betadood, but you know i'm biased and all. His time on the New Downhill is 4:37.1XX. The fastest time ever set on the leaderboard for an AE86 is a 4:36.9XX, and that's by Wilson's alternate account "Alphadood" (REAL CLEVER WILSON).
If you're gunning for #1 AE86 driver you'll have to at least match Wilson and Betadood.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but reducing your flywheel's weight can make your engine respond better by accelerating and decelerating quickly, but reduces "engine momentum". The way I see it, the lighter your flywheel is, the more efficient you can be at stopping and starting again, pretty useful on the touge i'd say.

No its rwd. Do u think thats too low? I'm not sure what im ment to be doing really, any help would be much apreciated
If it's that low I'm gueesing you experience understeer at low speed corners am I right? With that method of tuning you are basically trading oversteer for understeer which requires a unique driving style.

Yes I know this but I'm just questioning Forza's physics as to how realistic it is. I mean the only racing simulation I know of that takes into account the rotational inertial of engine parts is Richard Burns Rally (old PC sim) and I'd be surprised if Turn10 managed to do the same!
Can anyone acknowledge this? Like take a stock car, drive it, then slap on a race flywheel, drive it and notice any difference

yeah it understeers a low speed put oversteers at high speed. this is a tune that a friend gifted me because i dont really know how to fine tune an 86 to not slide much under heavy acceleration

I saw "RedSuns Ryosuke" consistently run 4:40, 4:41s, so Grave is 3rd fastest FC

The AE86 will always have a tendency to oversteer because of its old design. Also the fattest tires you can install are mere 225s (same problem with the FC3S). The good thing about the 86 is its insane acceleration (like what 7.2-7.4 in B-class right?) so when driving it you have to maximize its strengths (exit speed, straights (ironic right?), and nimble body) while keeping its faults at bay (skinny tires which result in: a tendency to oversteer, relatively lower cornering speed, relatively bad braking). But hey, Betadood and Wilson have proven these things wrong so see if you can ask them for tips or something All in all, just practice with it enough and keeping the 86 under control will become second nature.
