This is very off topic....but

I was watching the news this morning...(yes i watch the news) and i saw something that really pissed me off.
They are trying to fault violent video games for the school shootings that have been happening as of late.
they say that the latest shooting (Connecticut) they believe that it happened because of video games. when they searched the boys room they found violent video games and they also believe that he played them in the dark by him self for hours and hours.

This is bull! its absurd . not once did they blame the parents for allowing the child to play hours and hours in the dark , and who got these games for him? hes fary god parents?

what do you guys think about this issue? is anyone else as mad as i am?

This really isn't the first or the last of this issue. At the end of the day everybody just wants to blame something be it guns, movies, books, or videogames. I just try not to pay to much attention to an "expert" on the news who clearly has no experience with what they are talking about.

Here in finland they have been accusing video games for a long time now, also, other stupid stuff, like live role plays games, airsoft etc.

I used to do airsoft matches too, so it really hurts me, and im not a serial killer

yeah its been going on for a while here too but it still makes me upset. im a big video gamer even tho i cant play much and this kind of stuff pisses me off

that's very true. but it is the parents responsibility to keep their child in check and if they are going to have fire arms at home then keep it well hidden and out of reach. that's still an adults responsibility if they choose to conseive a weapon in the household

Honestly, banning guns would be a good thing, I do agree pistols and the other basics I don't mind...but what is the point of having half the guns from Call of Duty for "protection", now thats just stupid and unnecessary.

That is true. i honestly don't even own a gun or would want one. maybe a baseball bat. im just saying if ppl are going to have a gun atleast take responsibility for it and not blame videogames for these peoples actions. i also blame the media. do you guys know how infamous they become for doing something like that?

It's all just media hype so don't trust in it too much.

Honestly....if the media didn't basically glorify these assholes then maybe they wouldn't think shooting up a school would be the best idea for getting the attention they think they deserve.

just because some kids and their retarded parents think its okay for a ten year old to play gta counter strike and all that stuff grownups are put to disadvantage. and the measures dont even work. well no wonder since thats not the reason.

I can see why it may be a problem in the future because you have all these little kids on Call of Duty, Halo, Far Cry, Saints Row, and all those kind of violent, inappropriate content in video games. The mind of a child is easily moldable to what they watch and do in the early stages ( 0 - 10 ) and it could lead to bad events in the future because of the violent games and what it's teaching them. It's not the video games that's the problem, it's the parents that buy the games for their children that's the problem. That's my look on it.

blame guns all you want, but a gun never killed anyone...

it takes a person to get the bullets and load them in, and chamber a round and aim at another person and pull the trigger.

if someone wants to go nuts and kill they'll find a way to do so, if there are guns or not. sure an assault rifle makes it too easy, but i could walk into my kitchen and grab a steak knife and kill pretty easily too. . .

everyone is too afraid to blame themselves, so it must be something elses fault.

but videogames? get real....literally.

If guns make killing easier, there will be more killings. Example, my home country has one of the highest murders-to-poulation ratio at a worldwide level. I've SEEN some shit and only a handful of them were stabbings. If someone has a killing intent it is true that they don't need a gun but as long as they don't carry kitchen knives with them they are less likely to kill in public.

The whole video games blame is stupid. If someone can't tell the difference then real life and Grand theft auto then theres a problem. Video games could be the cause in 5 year olds who don't know the difference between real life and video games but......if your kid is playing Gran theft auto in pre-school then that is parental issues, not the game itself.

If the accessibility of guns makes killing easier and therefor causes more killings....then how does anyone make it out of a gun show alive??

I know it seems easier to blame the tool used in a tragedy, but honestly we are overlooking the real problems by a long shot.

There have been a number of accidental shootings at gun shows recently, I think there always have been but now with the gun debate they take more notice of it.

Excuse me but... what's a gun show? Is this an American thing or something?
