I don't remember anything like that. It's most likely dream considering the name of the last chapter, the ideals his late fiance lived by, and his reply to team spiral's question. It's pretty clearly spelled out.

from funimation dub " the whole point of project d is to help develop my theory on being the fastest driver so like any good scientific study their is a control group and an experimental group that's why we have two drivers." Hey all and all i can be wrong, both conclusions can be right.

That has got to be the one of the worst endings I have ever seen.
Spoiler:
Ryosuke is literally the only character who gets a nice ending here. What was Bunta's last favor? What is going to be Takumi's next car? What happened to Shinji? What exactly happened to the 86? Why did takumi refuse to put a new engine in it? So many questions and we get this. Really hope final stage or the new initial d movie is like an OVA that will answer some of these questions.

I don't even know what to say really besides Initial D deserved better than this. Pretty much everyone knows the traditional way of writing a story; The action builds up over time, you have a climax, then the action falls over time. There's exceptions, like ending a story during the climax, but this wasn't a story that needed something like that. For a story that's been going on for almost as long as i've been alive, it deserved some explanations, some more dialogue, something to wrap up a series some people knew and loved since they were children. It deserved it's author's effort.
It just feels like Shigeno was too concerned with putting Initial D to rest to care about the wonderful story he wrote. I guess he might have got tired of writing it, since there's a dramatic drop in quality after the God hand and God foot race. The races are as fun to look at as ever, but the story just isn't there. The old spark came back for a moment with Ryosuke and Shinigami, but he played it very safe and didn't really work with the idea enough for it to be really impactful like the first three stages of Initial D.
Whether I like how it happened or not, it's finally over. With Xbox One and Forza 5 just around the corner to split the community, it might even be the end of my online racing with the FC. I'll always remember the 86 from Akina that opened up the world of cars for me. It's been fun, for Forza 4 and for Initial D.

All I can read is on the page with Ryosuke walking from the grave. He says "Sore ga D no *kanji I can't read*ni kometa ore no *another kanji*i dakara"
Something like "That is the reason for project D", I don't know i'm like 3 year old level in Japanese.
On the page with Takumi driving the Impreza he's thinking about Itsuki.

The absence of the 86 made me rage. Hard. It's like making one of your primary characters disappear out of the blue. And we got trolled HARD with Bunta's last favor. Wow I just can't...

Shinji battle:
So to be completely honest, I fell like Takumi is completely outclassed during this battle. Given he can hold his own, and won. But as far as we're concerned Shinji has no upgrades that are comparable to Takumi's. Even though it is Shinji's home course
