How do you know if a suspension is to soft/hard? How would the car react accelerating out of or decelerating into a corner?

Is there any way possible to make a car turn in (corner sharper) more, as you all know I drive the supra and feel like it won't turn.

Exactly how does tire pressure affect your lap time?, is it better for your tires to be at maximum grip from the starting line or is it better to reach maximum grip somewhere in the middle of the mountain?

Differential settings, what is lift-off throttle? Does your Accel affect your Decel and vice versa? Why run a low Accel, what are you trying to make your car do by lowing the Accel? Why run a high Decel, what are you trying to make your car do running a high Decel?

I have plenty more questions I just wanted to get the major ones out there

I can answer you question for the low accel: low accel prevents from the driven tires to spin on throttle. the lower it is the less willing will the car be to turn in though, while too much will let the tail come out in when you try flooring it out of a corner

there should be a sweetspot somewhere where the wheelspin is minimal but the car still turns in smooth.

higher decel setting reduces over steer when off the gas. everyone has their own preference when it comes to tire pressure. i usually set mine to 28.5 so that by mid race they're at about 32 to 33 psi which in my opinion is optimal grip. what black said about the accel setting is spot on. to make the car turn in sharper you can try putting the front toe out but nothing more than +2 or lowering your caster or lowering your decel setting and also raising your accel setting. i use telemetry when it comes to tuning the suspension. we talked about that already in a party lobby a while ago. hope the info helped Wink

Aside from the above statements, if you need better turn in I sometimes fiddle with a looser front end, your entries if tuned correctly can be game changing for some cars

i usually use a nice amount of negative camber and run my caster like 5.6 but 5.4 does the job too

Soft or hard is a subjective feel. If its soft you feel the car roll and it has a lot of easy play in the shocks/springs. If its stiff or hard you feel every bump and it rattle and its like righting a roller coaster you snap from direction to direction.

As for turn in yes. That is pretty easy to achieve in about 40 different ways. For the supra its going to come down to your roll bars and springs. If you are talking about the 98 then i know what you mean but it turned out really smoothly. I cant get on til tonight 10pm or later my time. but im willing to hop in my supra and tune it with you so you understand how everything works. But ill say this. Oversteer is dictated by the discrepancy between front and rear stiffness of rollbars and springs. the larger the difference the more the over steer *to a degree*. You can goof and make the car to weirddddd things if you dont know what youre doing.

Tire Pressures. This one is interesting on the touge as its a short 4 minute run. however there are so many turns your tires heat up quickly in most cases. You want them to be at peak grip for as long as possible. peak grip is 200 degrees and 32 psi. the wider your tires the longer it takes to heat up. the lower your starting psi the faster they heat up, but then you risk running your pressures too low at peak temp.

As for the diff. There are many ways to tun a diff. and the way i like mine is different form how others like theirs so ill stay out of that one lol!

As for accelerationg with a soft set up, if the rear is soft you can accelerate quicker without the tires breaking lose because the cars body is able to flow with the inertia rather than fight it and pusht he tires into the ground causing wheel spin. too soft and you will get a bouncy car that wont wheel spin but will get loose and hard to control anyways.

A stiff car under braking will generally break better with proper brake control as it allows you to stop the inertia more responsively with less body flow. Your springs should be stiffer where the motor is. the balance of the car also plays a large role. i know that when i tune a bmw its set at different "oversteer to gap" ratios as i like to think of it in my head than a front heavy car, or a car which is rear or mid engined.

Im not on my box right now my brother is. But i will do when i get on tonight.

Camber depends on every other setting on your car. more roll, more camber.

Although in all my experience i have never done more than 1.4 in the front and never more than 1.0 in the rear.

How would you guys go about stopping the suspension constantly bottoming out?

I'm trying to tune the '71 Skyline, and the springrates I'm forced to use are damn close to how stiff the Lexus' are. Plus I've raised the ride height 3/4 clicks. Still bottoms out with any little bump while cornering.

I thought you could get away with lighter springs on lighter cars...

For reference:
Springs -550 Front. 520 Rear.
Ride height - 6.7 Front and Rear.

Honestly, even in circuit racing i never ever put my cars slammed. Its a bad idea. Infact i run some almost all the way up. Thing of it this way. if you springs are soft the car will naturally push them down. so if you have the springs all the way down and the ride height all the way up it might actually still be lower than stiffest springs and slammed in the tuning menu. If you play with the bump and rebound you can run a soft car with the ride height up there. My 82 911 will bottom out no matter what. I have the springs pretty stiff and the ride height up almost all the way and it will still bottom out.

2015lbs. I've been messing with it for the last hour, and so far I've reduced the bump stiffness a touch which has helped with the way it handles.

I'll have a go at rebound next. It's pretty sweet as it is though. From watching some of the quickest guys replays, it seems that most are bottoming out at the same places. So perhaps I'm making too big a deal out of this?

Forreal forreal, your going to bottom out no matter what on some parts of the track js (the elevation changes make sure of that).

Yeah, I always knew that any car would bottom out in a few places, but it just seemed like it was happening more than usual.
The solution? Raise the ride height to 6.8 and stiffen the bump and rebound a few clicks. It's barely noticeable now.
